Busch Advances to Championship Event with Win at Martinsville

October 29, 2017
Kyle Busch captured the win at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, becoming the first driver to secure a spot in the ‘Championship 4’ season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Busch, who has won five races this season, will be one of four drivers competing for the 2017 MENCS championship on Sunday, November 19.

“It’s just a great win for this whole M&M’s Halloween Toyota Camry,” said Busch. “Awesome to get to victory lane here at Martinsville. You know I wanted to win Charlotte, Martinsville and Homestead and that’ll make us this year’s champions, so we’ve got one more.”

Toyota teammates and fellow Playoff contenders Martin Truex Jr. (second) and Denny Hamlin (seventh) also captured top-10 finishes. After being eliminated in the Round of 12 last week, Camry driver Matt Kenseth finished ninth.

A final restart with two laps to go in overtime shuffled the top five drivers, allowing Busch to overtake the leader, Hamlin, for the victory. Toyota drivers have now captured six of seven Cup Series Playoff events as three races remain.

“We weren’t the best all day, but we put ourselves in the right spots there at the end,” said Busch. “There was kind of chaos ensuing and none of it was our fault, we just came out on the right end of the stick.”

Toyota drivers led a combined 191 laps with Busch pacing the field for a race-high 184 laps en route to victory lane.

The NASCAR Cup Series heads next to Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, November 5 with only three races remaining this season.
