September 10, 2007 - Georgetown, KY - More than 350 suppliers across the country contribute to every car that rolls off Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc.'s (TMMK) Georgetown assembly line. Whether it is a functioning part that directly impacts the car or is a microchip that controls the online machinery building the car-each supplier is an integral part of the success of Toyota. That's why each year TMMK honors those suppliers at an Annual Purchasing Policy Meeting and Awards Ceremony.
During a recent ceremony held in Lexington, a series of suppliers were acknowledged for meeting Toyota's high standards of management, cost, quality, engineering, delivery and safety.
Thirteen suppliers in all were honored, with six of them receiving TMMK's highest honor as Outstanding Business Partner. They include: ARK, Inc.-Maintenance Steel Division (Georgetown, Ky.), CED (Georgetown, Ky.), SMC Corporation of America, Inc. (Indianapolis, Ind.), Vascor, Ltd. (Georgetown, Ky.), Precision Staffing (Lexington, Ky.) and Sky Steel, Inc. (Walling, Tenn.).
Tom Zawacki, TMMK's General Manager of General Administration acknowledges the importance of suppliers. "Our suppliers have a huge influence on our ability to produce high quality products, provide a safe working environment for our team members, and help us reach higher levels of productivity. The suppliers recognized today are the best of the best."
Seven other suppliers were recognized for their support of TMMK including: General Rubber & Plastics Co., Inc. (Lexington, Ky.), CED, Inc (Georgetown, Ky.), OTP (Louisville, Ky.), Butcher Electric, Inc. (Georgetown, Ky.), Abednego Environmental Services, LLC (Northville, Mich.), Plant Services (Georgetown, Ky.) and Tape Industrial Services (Louisville, Ky.). Five of the honored suppliers have serviced TMMK for the entire twenty years that the plant has been in existence.
These suppliers have proven their abilities over the course of the previous year to meet and in many cases exceed the challenges that TMMK suppliers face. Awards are given to companies who receive the highest scores on a rating system that is filled out by TMMK team members who utilize their services.
Several of this year's winners were repeat recipients. General Rubber & Plastics, Inc. has won 4 previous awards, while OTP, Tape Industrial Services, Inc. and Precision Staffing, Inc. have all won twice before.
TMMK is Toyota's largest North American manufacturing facility with an annual capacity to produce 500,000 vehicles and engines. TMMK employs approximately 7,000 team members.
