In Saturday night's NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) race at Gateway International Raceway in the shadow of St. Louis, Missouri, three Toyotas took the checkered flag in the top-10 with two Camrys in the top-five.
David Reutimann was the top-finishing Toyota Camry as he finished third in his No. 99 Aaron's Dream Machine Camry. Reutimann led twice for a total of 23 laps in tonight's race. Reutimann led fellow Toyota drivers, Jason Leffler and Todd Bodine late in the race as Camrys made up the top-three in the field.
"Everybody had great pit stops tonight and we had a great car for most of the race," said Reutimann following the race. "But I think we came here with too small of a brake package and I couldn't stop it there at the end. I kept having to move up the race track and it allowed those other guys to get me. All in all it was a good effort, but I'm disappointed because I really thought we should have won the race and we definitely had a car capable of winning tonight."
Leffler made his way to the fourth position at the checkered flag after starting from the 29th position in his No. 38 Great Clips Camry.
"We were right in the middle of one wreck there on the backstretch when (Mike) Bliss and those guys spun out," said Leffler following the race. "I got hit right in the door, but luckily it was behind the left-front tire so it didn't really do any damage to the suspension. But with all the cautions tonight, we're pretty happy to get out of here with a fourth place finish."
Bodine made a strong showing in his first Busch Series start for his Craftsman Truck Series team, Germain Racing, as he led 15 laps of the race and finished 10th.
"We had a great car," said Bodine following the race. "On one of the cautions the 'lucky dog' was coming up through the field and our spotter was getting chewed out by NASCAR because they didn't think I kept the pace up on the restart before that, which was a ridiculous call because I kept the same speed all the way through, but our spotter wasn't able to call the 'lucky dog' coming past me and I made contact with him and messed the right-front fender up. We had a great car and we had a car to win with -- we just didn't have the racing luck to go along with it."
Dave Blaney finished 35th in the No. 10 Fan1st.com Camry after suspension damage ended his night early.
The next NASCAR Busch Series race on the schedule will take place on Saturday, July 28 at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis.
