Two Toyotas Have Tough Day At Las Vegas Motor Speedway

March 11, 2007

March 11, 2007 - Las Vegas, Nevada -- In Sunday afternoon's NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series (NNCS) race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, both Toyota Camry drivers in the field at the Nevada one-and-a-half-mile oval had tough days.

Although Dale Jarrett, driver of the No. 44 UPS Toyota Camry, finished the race -- he ended the day in 33rd-place, four laps behind race-winner Jimmie Johnson. Dave Blaney had a short day in his No. 22 Caterpillar Toyota Camry, completing just 17 laps before contact with another car forced him to retire from the race.

"We just had to try and make adjustments every pit stop to see what it was going to do to get our race car better," said Jarrett, following the race. "The biggest thing we have to do is go back to the shop and work on the bodies of our cars -- we've got to get some more downforce."

Blaney started 11th and finished 42nd after being collected when several cars spun. "The 07 (Clint Bowyer) got into the 13 (Joe Nemechek) and spun him out and I just tried to avoid it -- and I just lost it," said Blaney, after he retired from the race. "I was too close to it, going too fast, and I just didn't do a good job avoiding it. Everything seemed fine to me starting off. Then, one guy runs into another one and bad stuff happens."

Toyota drivers AJ Allmendinger, Jeremy Mayfield, David Reutimann, Brian Vickers and Michael Waltrip failed to qualify for the Las Vegas race.

The next NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race on the schedule is at Atlanta Motor Speedway, March 18.

In Saturday afternoon's NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) race at Las Vegas, Dave Blaney was the top-finishing Toyota when he ended up 25th in the No. 10 Camping World Toyota Camry. Blaney, who is currently third in the Busch Series championship point standings, completed 194 laps in the 200-lap event.

Two other Toyota drivers also participated in the Busch race at Las Vegas. David Reutimann crossed the finish line 31st and Jason Leffler ended the day 37th.

The next NASCAR Busch Series race will take place at Atlanta Motor Speedway, March 17.
