Three Toyota Camrys Tally Top-15 Finishes in Mexico City

March 05, 2007

March 5, 2007 - Mexico City - All three Toyota Camrys competing in the NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) Telcel-Motorola 200 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City came away with top-15 finishes as Jason Leffler, David Reutimann and Dave Blaney completed impressive runs in the Camry's first-ever road course start.

Leffler scored the best finish among the three Toyota Camry drivers competing in Mexico City with a sixth-place run in the No. 38 Great Clips Camry for Braun Racing. The Long Beach, Calif., native started from the 24th position and worked through the field while navigating the twisty 2.518-mile, eight turn road course. The finish came as no surprise, as Leffler finished 17th in Mexico City in 2006 after starting 40th.

"It was a little war of attrition," said Leffler. "We wanted to stay on the track and knew if we did that, we'd come away with a good finish. Our car was good enough to run up with the leaders late in the race. It took us a while to tighten it up, but in the last couple runs we got it going pretty good."

Reutimann (12th) and Blaney (13th) also managed to avoid a series of late-race incidents to finish high in the running order. The finish for Reutimann comes in his first-career road course start and Blaney's run keeps him third in the unofficial NBS point standings.

"I definitely learned a lot out there," said Reutimann. "The guys did a good job plugging away, keeping me motivated and giving me good advice. We had to run off the track one time to avoid that, but other than that we stayed on course, and they told me if I kept clean, I would come home with a top-15."

Juan Pablo Montoya, who won this year's 24 Hours of Daytona with a TRD-built Lexus-powered engine, was the race winner.

The Busch Series returns to action on March 10 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
